Small but nice!

At the Überseebrücke on Hamburg’s Hafenpromenade, a new architectural jewel has been created. Sprinkenhof GmbH has erected a spectacular new structure, integrated into the port’s new flood protection facility, where culinary delights will be available to all of Hamburg’s visitors – and naturally also to all the people of Hamburg. The building itself, faced with high-quality brickwork to blend in with the flood protection facility, gives little hint of the special constructional features beneath and inside the building.

What had to be done?

Among other things, it was necessary to overcome the challenges posed by the multiplicity of restrictions on the civil engineering works and the highly-complex deep foundation measures. At the same time, the wishes of the designing architect with regard to the external form of the building, the internal and external formwork geometry and the slender pillar dimensions had to be brought into harmony with the constructional, structural and physical possibilities.

In our opinion, the new Überseerestaurant with its over ten metre long east-facing projection and its fully-glazed southern facade overlooking the panorama of the Port of Hamburg is definitely worth a visit. And then a second, and a third ...
