Change on the Inner Alster.
This magnificent building, a highlight of the city panorama on the Inner Alster, is showing its age, so to speak.
After complete gutting down to the shell and demolition of the two – hitherto hardly usable – loft storeys, the entire ensemble, which was built in three sections, each of which has a different load-bearing structure, will be renovated for modern and flexible office use. On the ground floor, also incorporating the beautiful inner courtyard, a variety of shop and catering concepts will be turned into reality.
While taking into account the strict requirements of historical building conservation, new lifts will be installed, the building services completely renewed and the accessibility of the ground floor from the street in Ballindamm improved by lowering the floor. The regulations for status protection will be largely made use of in the renovation measures. On levels 5 and 6, after removal of the two existing storeys they will be replaced in an adapted form by a new steel and aerated concrete structure in lightweight construction.
After completion of the renovation work, the historic building ensemble will shine in a new splendour with a modern image as "Ballinhof".
