A new bridge for the Peute.
The First Peute Bridge leads to Peute Island in the Port of Hamburg. The bridge, dating from 1912, had suffered substantial damage to both the superstructure and substructure. Economic remediation of the existing construction was thus no longer possible.
The demolition of the existing bridge was carried out by flotation with the aid of pontoons as well as the natural tidal range.
The new structure was executed as a post-free steel lattice framework bridge with parallel belts and a span of 42.50 metres. A particular challenge was presented by the planning of the replacement abutments, for which it was necessary to take the local site conditions into account. As well as the existing foundation construction, these also included the directly-adjacent Peute Barrage, culverts from the year 1912 underneath the existing abutments, and the pier decks of the neighbouring sites. The new bridge superstructure was completely prefabricated, then floated into place through the barrage on pontoons, raised by means of hydraulic presses and set down on the new abutments.
The link to the commercial areas on Peute Island was thus once again permanently assured.
