Take the U-Bahn to shopping paradise.

Can you now get to the Europa Passage directly by Underground? Well, almost! You still need to walk a few paces through the tunnel from the Jungfernstieg U-Bahn station. But then you’re already into a big world of shopping!

The new tunnel structure, a wide hall with small shops, provides a direct underground connection between the busy U-Bahn and suburban rail hubs at Jungfernstieg and the Europa Passage

The proximity of the Alster, the high ground water level and its location in the middle of a central traffic intersection did not exactly make the planning and execution of the construction easy. The connection between the existing tunnel facilities and the building pit and the new tunnel structure demanded special attention.  The new seamless reinforced concrete construction, executed as a “white tank”, had to be connected permanently and securely to the “black tank” at the demolition edge of the the existing construction.

There were also exciting surprises again and again, since the historic building site held remnants of older structures just waiting for us to find them. But even these could not prevent us from completing the shell construction on time and at a high quality. But the quality we really achieved, it must be said, remains to be proven in the course of time ...

New connection following old traditions.
