Complex building geometry, cantilever up to 10 metres on the 13th floor, connecting steel bridges
GFA: ca. 47.000 m² Time: 2008 - 2011 Building costs: c. 73 mill. EUR
Our scope: structural engineering
Openness and communication.
This is the central promise that the design by the Danish architect Henning Larsen makes. The structural planning upholds the architectural design with the clever positioning of supports and arrangement of the bracing cores.
And the new home of the news magazine "Der Spiegel" with its 15 storeys has thus become one of the highlights of HafenCity and thus forms a counterpoint to the Elbphilharmonie concert hall.
Like a "window of the city", the 3rd to 12th storeys on the northern side are recessed by some 10 metres so that the 13th storey projects far outwards. This same principle is also adopted on the southern side.
The communicative heart of the building is the spacious atrium, in which numerous bridges make for short internal pathways.
