International connections.
Aircraft components are manufactured at many sites in Europe. But ultimately they all come together in one place to be assembled into an aeroplane. The tightly-scheduled air transport of the prefabricated fuselages and wings is handled by the Beluga Super-Transporter.
Delays are undesirable in this process. Therefore it is important to ensure that the Belugas can be loaded and unloaded regardless of weather conditions. For this purpose we planned a total of three new logistics halls in steel skeleton construction for the Airbus sites at Hamburg and Bremen.
Each of the halls has an approximately 18 m high logistic sluice which can completely enclose the Belugas’ loading zone and thus guarantee a weather-independent loading process. The process is aided by a 2 x 10 tonne crane, the track of which is an integral component of the hall construction in Bremen. Protected temporary storage of the transport goods is carried out in the halls on an approx. 5 m high reinforced concrete level. As a result, the ground floor beneath it is kept completely free for other uses.
Additionally, in the exterior zone of the halls in Hamburg, we have planned an approx. 18,000 m² temporary storage area. For the foundations, about 2 km of pile beams were deeply founded on some 265 bore piles in order to be sure of meeting the particularly demanding specifications for freedom from deformation.
The planning of the halls, as produced by us, serves as a blueprint for all Airbus sites in order to ensure a smooth and uniform process in the logistics chain.
