Australian dreaming.

In place of the legendary SPIEGEL canteen with its interior architecture in psychedelic mood by Verner Panton, comfortable overnight stays are now on offer: Australian dreaming between town hall and Speicherstadt.

The new Apartment Hotel belonging to the Australian Adina hotel chain is the first of three new buildings on the site of the former SPIEGEL-Insel (SPIEGEL Island) to be completed. On eight storeys the building block, which follows the road for c. 100 metres, offers some 200 very spacious hotel rooms, conference rooms, a restaurant and also – as the Australians take for granted – a swimming pool.

The load-bearing structure of the newly-arisen building completely dispenses with downstand beams. Due to its ingenious construction with semi-prefabricated, prefabricated and cast-in-place concrete for each storey, the building shell was erected in a record time of 15 days.

Two further new buildings on SPIEGEL Island – a residential structure and a second hotel – will maintain the high standard set by the new Adina Apartment Hotel in their facade designs.

New facade – new name.
