Topping-out wreath over new building with historic façade.
28.02.2024 – The topping-out ceremony for the new boutique hotel behind the Hamburg State Opera was celebrated in style.
The speeches by the client, the architect and the foreman from the construction company Leonhard Weiss reminded everyone once again of the special challenges of the construction project: Originally, the existing, approximately 100-year-old, five-storey building behind the Hamburg State Opera was supposed to be simply extended by a further four storeys. However, examinations of the structure revealed missing foundations, insufficiently load-bearing masonry pillars, rusted ceiling beams and sagging and swinging ceilings, so that ultimately a new building behind the street-side façade, which was to be retained, was the more economical solution.
By working together, all problems were solved to the satisfaction of the client, so that now the interior work and the installation of the building services can proceed in earnest.
