The excavation pit for the new lock structure is growing.
31.03.2026 - Following the completion of the initial key preparatory works, excavation of the main construction pit for the replacement lock at Kriegenbrunn began in mid-October 2025.
The main excavation pit, approximately 330 m long and up to 29 m deep, is being excavated in stages. The retaining walls will be supported by up to five layers of struts. The first struts have already been installed. The struts consist of up to three pipe segments and are being pre-tensioned according to plan. In parallel with the excavation, a facing shell is being constructed in individual areas of the excavation pit, which will later serve as ‘permanent’ formwork for the walls of the new lock structure.
As inspection engineers, we are responsible for the structural review of the necessary construction documents, which we carry out on an ongoing basis throughout the construction process and in close coordination with the client and the contractor.
