With the Überseestadt building project in Bremen – as in Hamburg’s HafenCity – a former port and industrial site is being redesigned and upgraded as an attractive environment with office and residential properties. Part of this is Weserquartier 1, or "WQ1" for short.

The special feature of the eight-storey building is the projection of the four upper storeys by over 12 metres. This was made possible by slanted pressure supports which are integrated into the facade as a lattice framework and visible from afar. Not visible is the deep foundation with bore piles which were fitted in between the anchors of the quay construction and various residues of historic structures below the surface.

For the observer, the image has been created of a swinging container facing towards the Weser river, recalling the original function of the site. Users can enjoy an unobstructed view upstream and downstream along the Weser through the transparent glass construction.

And finally, the building was designed to be as environmentally and resource friendly as possible, as was impressively confirmed by its DGNB Silver certification.
