Shining for the audience.

Promoting knowledge – Supporting the arts – Building competencies. These are the aims of the ZEIT Foundation which established Germany’s first private university for jurisprudence in Hamburg.

Its newly-created Auditorium Maximum, built as an independent structure, will serve not only as an academic home for the students but will reach out to the city’s population too.

And this is also what the building itself does. It is enveloped in an extensive glass facade that offers inviting views into the interior. It shines out, visible from afar, especially when lit up at night.

Behind the glass mantle, the exterior walls of the auditorium and foyer are formed in reinforced concrete, as are the floors and the cantilevered seating tiers. The load-bearing structure was set out in such a way that, to the delight of the architect, his design ideas could be realised without additional pillars. To achieve this, special vibration tests were necessary for the auditorium.

An appropriate home.
