22.01.2024 - Work on the first construction phase of the replacement of the Finkenwerder bridges in the west of Hamburg's port area is almost complete.
The first, almost 60-metre-long bowstring bridge was moved from the pre-assembly site to its final position on 12.08.2023. Since then, the remaining works and preparations for the second construction phase had been underway. The nearly 600-tonne superstructure was pushed into place with the help of SPMT heavy-duty vehicles and a 600-tonne crawler crane. The combined insertion and lifting process took just under 17 hours.
The new construction was made necessary by damage to the existing structure from the year 1970. Once the remaining work on the first construction phase has been completed, traffic can be switched to the new three-lane bridge. Work will then begin on the second construction phase.
