Hamburg needs more underground services. The U5 is on its way. The U4 is being extended. We are now turning our attention to the historic U3 circular line. At present, only 80-metre-long trains operate on this line. A more frequent service isn’t possible, but longer trains certainly are. We are extending the platforms to 125 metres in length, thereby enabling a 50 per cent increase in passenger numbers.
This is how we understand sustainability. Everything has to align for that: increased passenger capacity, modern technical equipment, architecturally sophisticated refurbishments of listed buildings, structural engineering, transport planning. Last year, we were pre-qualified as the lead designer for the overall project; we have now been awarded the contract for the upgrade of the Landungsbrücken and Baumwall stops.
