13.05.2026 – First pile driven for the renovation of Kehrwiederspitze quay wall!
The historic quay walls form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Speicherstadt”. Construction began in early 2026 and will take a total of two years. The project is located in a busy area in the immediate vicinity of the Elbphilharmonie and at the junction of the Niederbaum and Wilhelminen bridges.
The renovation will be carried out in accordance with conservation guidelines. This means that all new structural elements will be installed on the landward side of the existing structure, ensuring that the historic views are fully preserved.
In sections, the approximately 180-metre-long quay wall area will be repaired by constructing a replacement structure in the form of a back-anchored bored pile wall. In other areas, load-relief and reinforcement measures will be carried out using deep-founded shield plates and additional back-anchorings. To secure the existing structure, support structures will be installed on the water side during the construction work.
