15.01.2024 - Construction of the new weir structure in Schorfheide has begun.
An ensemble of three labyrinth weirs is planned at the barrages in Schorfheide, Zaaren and Regow to replace the existing, ageing weir structures. Compared to conventional weirs, labyrinth weirs can significantly increase the discharge capacity with the same clearance width. This type of weir is familiar in the USA and is now being built in Germany for the first time.
The new weir structure in Schorfheide is designed as a combined labyrinth and gated weir, with labyrinth walls in the main opening and a control gate in the secondary opening. It is being constructed in a watertight excavation pit consisting of sheet pile walls and a back-anchored underwater concrete base. The ecological continuity of the weir structure is ensured by a fish ladder.
We have completed the structural inspection of the first package of execution documents. And now it is being built, the first labyrinth weir in Germany.
