18.10.2023 - A 21-metre-high installation of 37 shipping containers has been erected in the Port of Hamburg, making it one of the largest mobile works of art in the world.
Shipping containers are omnipresent in the Hamburg’s port. But not in this form. The container construction is modelled on the Brandenburg Gate and has already been on display in Frankfurt and Dubai. In Hamburg, the "Global Gate" now offers Otto Waalkes, the world's most popular East Frisian, approx. 2,000 m² of public exhibition space.
As structural engineers, it was our job to ensure that the work of art is stable, even under the special requirements of the Port of Hamburg. The installation can be visited at the Cruise Terminal in Altona at least until mid-November.
